Nestled at an altitude of 2438 mts above the sea level, this quaint little magical lake will take your breath away.Surrounded by dense lush green wooded forests this lake can be reached just by a short trek from a small village named Sari on the Ukhimath-Chopta road.DeoriaTal is a heaven to the mountain lovers for its 300 degree panoramic view of the Himalayas.In the first hour of dawn breathtaking views of peaks like Chaukhamba, Nilkantha, Bandarpunch, Kedar Range etc will leave you dumbstruck.Moreover throughout the entire day the reflection of Chaukhamba on the crystal clear blue water of the lake will uplift your soul to a spiritual bliss.
According to Hindu mythology the Devas bathed in this lake and hence the name Devariya Tal or Deoria Tal. The lake is also believed to be the “Indra Sarovar” mentioned in the Puranas by wandering, Hindu Sadhus. It is also believed that it was the place from where the mighty Pandavas were asked queries by Yaksha.
How to reach
To reach Deoria Tal you need to reach Sari Village which is 12-14 kms away from Ukhimath, which is approximately 204 kms from Haridwar enroute Rishikesh and Rudraprayag.From Sari it is a 3 kms uphill trek via Mastura village through a fascinating meandering hilly path laden by thick vegetations.
Where to stay
There are several budget accommodation options at Sari provided by locals including stay, food and necessary trekking arrangements.You can also stay in the tents beside the lake to experience a magical sunrise next day morning which is also arranged by these locals.A couple of shops sell tea and snacks for the tourists by the side of the lake but they shut down before evening.
Where to go
After your visit to this mystic lake,Deoria Tal, you can further move to Chopta to trek to the highest Shiva temple Tunganath, a divine dream destination. You can also trek further from Deoria Tal to reach a meadow called Rohini Bugyal and descend from another side to Chopta.
Best time to visit
Excluding the winter season when the entire area receives moderate to heavy snowfall, Deoria Tal can be visited from March to June and September to November.
